Jessica Burt
Biography
Jessica is a specialist food lawyer with Mills & Reeve LLP. Jessica has over 19 years of experience in dealing with food product regulatory and product liability issues, contentious and non-contentious matters. She has a Masters in Food Law with distinction, is a board member of the Food Law Group and a qualified mediator. Jessica has broad experience; from advising on food regulatory matters such as labelling, advertising and borderline product issues to crisis management and product liability and the provision of general commercial advice on system management and during corporate transactions involving food businesses. She has published articles on legal developments in the sector in a number of journals, has been quoted in ‘The Grocer’ and is recommended by Chambers for Food Product Liability, band 1.
Jessica advises on product liability and interpretation of Food Safety Requirements under Regulation (EU) No 178/2002 to a number of national and international food producers. This includes acting as a liaison between clients and trading standards officers and the Food Standards Agency. She was also a legal contributor to Professor Elliott’s review into the integrity and assurance of food supply networks in the aftermath of the horsemeat contamination. Presenting alongside the Food Standards Agency for the Food Law Group to the Laboratory of the Government Chemist on the Food Safety Requirements and risk assessment obligations relating to this.
